Under 8's Day Opening Liturgy

Hello Everyone,

I've uploaded our liturgy to You Tube and you can view it here.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs Hornstra.

Under 8's Day!

Well I'm sure you will all agree that Under 8's Day was a great success. A big thank you to all the parents who came along to participate and help out with today's activities. Everybody had a fabulous time.

We have even written to Mrs Bell to ask her if we can have an under 8's day every month!

Dear Mrs. Bell,

Tomorrow will be a fantastic day for St Catherine’s.  It will be our very first Under 8’s Day. You must be feeling so proud of how great our school has become.  It would be even better if we had an Under 8’s day every month.  We have come up with some wonderful reasons why this would be a great thing for our school.

The time has come to reward our efforts in the classroom.  Under 8’s Day is a great reward for those children who work hard, and it is a great encouragement for some students who need to work harder to get the reward.

I believe that Under 8’s Day also offers the opportunity for healthy exercise.  Healthy exercise keeps us fit and healthy and also keeps our brains fit and healthy.  Therefore we can become better learners.

Everyone knows that Under 8’s Day is a lot of fun.  Imagine when the word gets around Proserpine that our school has the best fun!  The enrollments for our school will be massive and we will be known as the best school around. Wouldn’t it be great to be known as the principle of the best school around?

To sum it all up, having an Under 8’s Day every month is a really fantastic idea and we trust that you will definitely agree with our ideas.

Yours faithfully
Year 2H.

Our prayer table.

This term we are learning about God's creation and how we can look after it. Last week students had an opportunity to bring in an item from God's creation to place on our prayer table.  We had some really lovely and thoughtful pieces added and our table looks wonderful. Thanks 2H for your beautiful contributions!

Snakes Alive!!!

We were very lucky today to have a special visit from Mr Easton, Isabelle's dad.  Mr Easton is very passionate about snakes and he and the girls, Isabelle and Georgie, have quite a collection.  He bought them along today to show us and to talk to us about what we should do if we come across a snake in the wild.  There were some amazing snakes, all non venomous. There was even a very rare albino python.  Thanks Mr Easton for sharing these amazing creatures with us.

A visit from Dr Alice.

In Health this term we are learning all about personal hygiene.  Dr Alice, the dentist paid us a visit this week.  Brushing and looking after your teeth is a very important part of personal hygiene and Dr. Alice took us through some great tips on how to keep your teeth clean and healthy.  She discussed with us how healthy food plays an important role in keeping our teeth healthy.  We all learnt something from Dr. Alice and she left us all with a goody bag that contained a new toothbrush.  Perfect for keeping our teeth clean and our smiles big!

What have we been up to?

Hello everyone!
Well we have been back at school for 3 weeks and we have been very busy indeed!  This term we have begun new topics in all our learning areas.  We have begun our new religion unit, The world is sacred with a look at the story of creation.

This is a clip we have been watching about the story of creation.

We also looked at the life of St Francis of Assisi.  St Francis is the patron saint of animals and is a great example of how we can be stewards of creation (protectors of all living things).

This clip is a day in the life of St Francis of Assisi.

In science we are delving into the push and pull forces that make everything move.  This also links to our technology unit where we are designing a push/pull toy in teams.

Here is a catchy tune about push and pull forces.

Speaking of catchy tunes, Here are a few that we are listening to during our morning fruit breaks...

We all know contractions....

The verb rap.

The noun song!

We are also back into our Roald Dahl Author study.  We have already read Fantastic Mr Fox, George's Marvellous Medicine and The Magic Finger in 3 weeks!  It's our favourite part of the day when we sit down to read these stories.  Next week we are going to begin Charlie and The Great Glass Elevator.

Make sure you read the next 2 posts!  We have also had a couple of special guests this week....
