Roald Dahl
Year 2H have been enjoying the fabulous novels of Roald Dahl during our Shared Reading time. So far this term we have read The Twits, James and the Giant Peach and we are currently reading The BFG.

Next on our list is Fantastic Mr Fox.
We have to agree that these stories are enjoyed by every member of our class and we always look forward to our shared reading time and the next installment.
Swimming lessons.
Wow! We are swimming like fish! Our bubble arm and breath arms are working a treat.
Year 2H have been having a great time on Friday afternoons at our swimming lessons. We have all improved over the term and it's great to see.
A special Thank You to our parent helpers; Lindsey and Matt Hayes, Maria Sala, Carolyn Shaw and Tavia Warrick. You have helped to make our Friday afternoon swimming lessons a great success.

Art with Mrs O'Grady.
This year we are very lucky to have Mrs O'Grady as our specialist art teacher. Every Monday afternoon we spend 45 minutes having our art lesson and we have been learning all about using texture to create different moods. Today in our lesson we used pastels and Mrs O'Grady showed us different techniques and marking ideas. We had a great time exploring this medium and these ideas.

Way back when.....
Mercy nuns were teachers...
Kids played games like egg and spoon and sack races...
Kids were given bottles of milk at school...
Year 2 had a fantastic day last week as we turned back time to the days when The Mercy Nuns taught at St Catherine's or The Convent School as it was known back then. All in the name of our History unit. A very big Thank You to Mrs Bernadine Stevens from the Proserpine Museum who gave a great talk to the students and took us back in time to when there were slates and black boards.
Where is Mrs Hornstra this week?
I'm writing this post from Townsville tonight. I've been lucky to have the opportunity this year to undertake a course known as IBL (inquiry based learning). This course runs for the whole year and I have spent the last two days and again tomorrow at the Catholic Education Office participating in a 3 day immersion programme. My head is swimming a bit tonight with fantastic ideas to implement when I get back next week. Tomorrow I will begin writing an IBL unit of work in geography that year 2 will participate in next term. It's all very exciting.
Click here for a you tube clip that gives you a small insight into the IBL concept.
See you next week.
See you next week.
